5th Anniversary of the MHCECC
03 July 2013 was the fifth anniversary of the inauguration of the Miriam Hyman Children's Eye Care Centre! It's hard to believe that it's five years since the MHCECC opened its doors. Since then, there have been 50,100 Outpatients appointments and 4,900 surgeries and lives are saved there as well as sight.
The MHMT continues to support the MHCECC's expansion on a project-by-project basis, according to their developing needs. We do this with YOUR help, and the support of other charitable organisations.
We are delighted that Miriam's sister and MHMT Trustee, Esther, attended the anniversary celebrations in Bhubaneswar. It is also the seventh anniversary of the opening of the L V Prasad Eye Institute Bhubnaeswar campus.
Esther also gathered source materials for "Miriam's Vision: A Response to the 2005 London Bombings" - the electronic teaching resource we are developing in partnership with Copthall School. It uses the location of the MHCECC in Orissa along with Miriam's story as unique starting points to tackle issues surrounding violent extremism in the safety of the learning environment.
Pay tribute to Miriam on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the MHCECC and the 8th anniversary of 7/7 - make a small donation or organise a fundraiser on our behalf. Every penny helps :) If you are outside the UK you can still Donate. Thank you :)
Update (07 July 2013)
Esther arrived home after 24 nights in India, early on 05 July, just in time to be with Miriam's loved ones on the eighth anniversary of the London bombings on Sunday 07 July.
Esther will report on her visit to the Miriam Hyman Children's Eye Care Centre and her search for source materials for "Miriam's Vision" as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you are on Facebook, take a look at the Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust page there for some updates that Esther posted while she was in India. The page is open to the public so you don't need to befriend us to see the content - unless you want to of course!
Will YOU do a fundraising event for the MHMT in this fifth anniversary year of the MHCECC?See our Donate page for ideas - THANK YOU!
